Immigration Update

The latest NumbersUSA ratings on the presidential candidates’ positions on immigration:

These ratings are based on four components:
– past actions while in office
– promises to oppose amnesty
– promises to stop future illegal immigration
– promises to reduce legal immigration

Sadly, now that Hunter has dropped out, there aren’t any candidates in the ‘Excellent’ category. Mitt Romney is the clear winner, and I’m certain no one is surprised about the bottom of the barrel. I can’t help but point out that this is just another example of how McCain is regularly — not every now and then, but regularly — in opposition to the Republican party. And, note how the scores plummet from Paul/Huckabee to Giuliani. You can go ahead and assume that if one of the top three doesn’t become President, illegal immigration will only get worse.

Some more specific details:

What has been the previous record of immigration actions while in elected office?

ABYSMAL — John McCain
BAD — Rudy Giuliani
BAD — Hillary Clinton
BAD — Barack Obama
BAD — John Edwards
BAD — Mike Huckabee

GOOD — Ron Paul
GOOD — Mitt Romney

How good are the promises to prevent amnesties and send current illegal aliens home?

ABYSMAL — John McCain
ABYSMAL — Rudy Giuliani
ABYSMAL — Hillary Clinton
ABYSMAL — Barack Obama
ABYSMAL — John Edwards
GOOD — Ron Paul
EXCELLENT — Mike Huckabee

EXCELLENT — Mitt Romney

How good are the promises to stop future illegal immigration?

POOR — Hillary Clinton
POOR — Barack Obama
POOR — John Edwards
FAIR — Rudy Giuliani
FAIR — John McCain

GOOD — Mike Huckabee
GOOD — Ron Paul
EXCELLENT — Mitt Romney

If immigration remains a huge issue with the American people, these ratings certainly bode well for Romney.

There’s my two cents.

I'm a gun-owning, Bible-thumping, bitter clinger conservative in the heartland. You can disagree with me if you want (you do, after all, have a right to be wrong)...just don't be rude or stupid and we'll get along just fine! :)
