It’s only been a couple days since we recapped the exploding IRS scandal(s), and now we’ve got even more to be concerned about:
The Internal Revenue Servicehas revoked the tax-exempt status of a conservative charity for making statements critical of Hillary Rodham Clinton and John Kerry, according to a USA Today report.
The Patrick Henry Center for Individual Liberty, based in Manassas, Va., “has shown a pattern of deliberate and consistent intervention in political campaigns” and made “repeated statements supporting or opposing various candidates by expressing its opinion of the respective candidate’s character and qualifications,” according to a written determination released Friday by the IRS.
The IRS said the center acted as an “action organization” by publishing alerts on its website for columns written by its president, former FBI agent Gary Aldrich, the Washington Free Beacon reported.
Funny, last time I looked there was this thing called the 1st Amendment that guaranteed a right to free speech. Yep, sure enough, here it is:
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.
I must just be missing the part about where everyone except conservatives is guaranteed the freedom of speech. If someone can point it out to me, that’d be very helpful.
This is simply the next step in the process of Barack Obama’s administration doing everything it can do silence its opposition. Oh, and my favorite part? Yeah, thousands of those IRS agents who are illegally harassing conservative groups are getting nifty performance bonuses despite being poor performers…or not doing their own taxes properly.
Can we get an irony alert here, or what?
If we’re being charitable, we can say they simply made mistakes like many non-governmental citizens do, but that then leads to this prickly question: if IRS employees can’t even do their own taxes correctly, then doesn’t that point to a systemic failure of the system itself? Shouldn’t we be trashing the whole thing and starting over with something much simpler?
While we’re trashing systems and starting over, how about we begin with those who are getting bonuses for sucking? Follow that up with the people who are illegally targeting American citizens simply for disagreeing. After all…
It’s amazing how a change in administration causes a change in position, isn’t it?
There’s my two cents.
