An internal Department of Homeland Security document obtained by the Center for Immigration Studies, a limited immigration group, and shared with Breitbart News Monday revealed that last year ICE released 36,007 criminal immigrants who had nearly 88,000 convictions.
The document further broke down the crimes and number of convictions – including 193 homicide convictions, 426 sexual assault convictions, 303 kidnapping convictions, and 1,075 aggravated assault convictions.
Nice. Thirty-six thousand convicted murderers, assaulters, and kidnappers, now freely roaming the streets of America. The Obama administration seems to think it a more grievous thing to hold such illegal aliens in prison than to endanger American citizens by releasing them. Some in Congress think this rises to the level of an impeachable offense. Whether it does or not, I simply do not see the Republican party possessing the will to move such an effort forward. Heck, I have so little faith in Republican spine that I’m not even convinced they’ll make an election year issue out of it! We’ll see.
For you and I, this highlights a serious problem on yet another serious issue. While the Left flounders about for some defense of this jailbreak — if they can just ignore it for a few weeks, then they can say, dude it’s been like, several weeks, so stop asking! — the bigger problem of illegal immigration remains. The Obama administration has been quite clear that they will selectively enforce (meaning pretty much not at all) illegal immigration laws, prompting a new flood of incoming illegal immigrants, including unattended children.
Why would Obama do such a thing? Because of this:
President Obama’s approval rating has fallen 8 points and his disapproval rating jumped 7 points since the beginning of the year, leaving him underwater, according to a new CNN/ORC International poll.
Did you get that? He’s underwater in a CNN poll. No one watches CNN except Obama supporters. It’s also because of this:
National polls can tell us a lot about the national mood, but if you want to get a grip on who will win the midterm elections, the only way to do it is to focus in on those who vote in contested House districts and states where Senate seats are up for grabs. That’s what Politico did with its latest poll published today and the results are likely to dampen some of the mild signs of optimism that Democrats have been exhibiting in recent weeks. According to the poll, likely voters say they favor Republicans over Democrats by a 41-34 percent margin. While each race will be won or lost by individual candidates rather than a generic party brand, this is another reminder that President Obama’s efforts to claim that he has conclusively won the debate on ObamaCare and other top issues will not help his party at the polls this November.
The results echo other polls of the entire country in which Americans overwhelmingly believe that the nation is headed in the wrong direction.
Quite simply, he needs votes wherever he can find them (emphasis mine):
It might be the incompetence we’ve come to expect from this administration. But don’t forget Obama knows a lot of these criminals will vote for his party.
Addressing law enforcement representatives on Tuesday, he emphasized there was only “a window of two to three months to get the ball rolling in the House of Representatives” on the amnesty-for-illegals-based immigration overhaul Democrats want so badly. “And your voices are going to be absolutely critical to that effort.”
Law enforcement pressure, he said, is “making a difference” against conservative House Republicans opposing amnesty. And it can help Speaker John Boehner and other GOP leaders favoring amnesty get “political space that allows them to go ahead and get it through their caucus and get it done.”
Phyllis Schlafly’s Eagle Forum has published a landmark report on how the immigrants of today and their children overwhelmingly support expansion of big government, and thus vote overwhelmingly Democratic.
Even without reform, present levels of legal immigration “will add nearly 15 million new potential voters by 2036, a large share of whom will favor the Left,” it points out.
Unless legal immigration is reduced — something that can only happen with Republicans in power in both Congress and the White House — “it will force Republicans to either permanently become a minority party or move to the left politically,” the report warned.
Anyway, even the Chamber of Commerce has lost its collective mind, and is advocating hard for amnesty. Some even say immigration laws should be ignored entirely until amnesty is passed. That’s pretty much what’s happening already, but if illegals are flooding into this country at the unspoken lack of enforcement, can you imagine what would happen if they actually made it formal policy? Goodbye, America, goodbye Republican party.
And never mind the huge national security concerns involved, too. Nah, it’s not like terrorists want to kill us or anything. No worries.
So now the ball is in House Speaker Boehner’s court. We know he wants amnesty, but House Republicans have rebelled against him in recent weeks. Will he roll over them and try to pass what Obama wants using primarily Democrat support, or will he listen to his party and his base? I honestly don’t know. The part that I simply do not understand is something that analysts from both sides agree on: illegal immigrants being granted amnesty will be a huge voter boom for Democrats. How Republicans can think this is anything other than permanent electoral suicide is beyond my comprehension. It’s not political opinion, it’s political reality.
Make no mistake, the pressure is enormous. We need to make it lopsided in our favor. Call or email your Rep and tell them no deals whatsoever that would provide amnesty, no matter what they choose to call it. Tell them you’re watching their votes, and that you will consider their actions on this issue in November. At this point, the only thing that can win this issue is massive public outcry.
There’s my two cents.
