I’ve been remiss over the past couple of days, so here are some important recaps.
The U.S. Doesn’t Negotiate With Terrorists, Period.
Except that we do, under President Obama. A quick background: you’ve probably heard about the poor, poor soldier named Bowe Bergdahl who’d been captured by the Taliban in Afghanistan. Obama ended up trading five Taliban terrorist leaders for him despite internal objections. After all, we don’t leave a man behind, you know. Of course, now we know that Bergdahl was actually a deserter, was about to renounce his citizenship, and pretty much hates America. At least now we know why Obama feels he’s a kindred spirit and wants to save him, but there are some, well, complications. Like, you know, the law:
Barack Obama broke a federal law that he signed just six months ago when he authorized the release of five high-ranking Taliban terror targets from the Guantanamo Bay detention center in exchange for the return of U.S. Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl, senior congressional Republicans claimed today.
And the president may also have written a new chapter in the case for his own impeachment, according to a former federal prosecutor who helped bring the 1993 World Trade Center bombers to justice.
‘The return of senior terrorists to the Taliban [is] … a “high crime and misdemeanor”,’ author Andrew C. McCarthy told MailOnline.
That’s a pretty common thought, it turns out. The extra fun part is that Obama knows it’s likely they’ll return to their terrorist ways. And, by the way, it turns out those five terrorist leaders are moving about freely now that they’ve been released.
Not only is this yet another blatantly unconstitutional and illegal move on the part of Obama, it is literally one of the most stupid things imaginable. What will happen when Americans get captured, tortured, or killed by these guys? Will Obama be held responsible? If Bill Clinton’s refusal to take custody of Osama bin Laden in the 1990s didn’t cause any trouble for him after 9/11, it’s hard to see Obama being held accountable for any future attacks these guys may conduct. And yet…the danger to Americans — and the precedent for every American traveling abroad in the future — is very, very real.
Siding With Our Enemies Against Our Allies
As if the headline wasn’t bad enough, it’s a violation of yet another campaign promise. To be honest, at this point I think the only campaign promise Obama has actually kept is that of transforming America. Anyway, here are the details:
During the 2008 presidential campaign, as it became clear that Barack Obama would be the Democratic nominee, he granted an interview with Jeffrey Goldberg in an attempt to establish pro-Israel bona fides. A Hamas official had recently endorsed Obama’s presidential candidacy and when Goldberg asked him about it, Obama responded emphatically:
My position on Hamas is indistinguishable from the position of Hillary Clinton or John McCain. I said they are a terrorist organization and I’ve repeatedly condemned them. I’ve repeatedly said, and I mean what I say: since they are a terrorist organization, we should not be dealing with them until they recognize Israel, renounce terrorism, and abide by previous agreements.
In the six years since Obama made that statement, Hamas hasn’t changed its positions — it refuses to renounce terrorism or its charter calling for the destruction of Israel. Nonetheless, Obama has changed his position on Hamas by deciding to deal with them after all.
The Obama administration is hiding behind the sham facade of a “unity” government, but anyone who knows anything about the situation understands that Hamas will be the driving force behind any such government. But it gets even worse:
…the Washington Post has reported that, the agreement, “appears to skirt, barely, U.S. prohibitions on aid to a Palestinian government that has ‘undue’ Hamas presence or influence. The Obama administration had worked behind the scenes to suggest terms for the new coalition government that would not trigger the U.S. ban, reasoning that the money helps preserve American leverage.”
So in other words, according to this report, the Obama administration actively worked with the Palestinians to help them mask the fact that they were bringing a terrorist group into the government so that they could get around U.S. law aimed at preventing the flow of money to terrorists.
Another illegal bit of maneuvering by the Obama administration, which clearly has a history of blaming Israel for every tension and problem in the Middle East, no matter what. And it’s all for the benefit of terrorists who would love to kill us and our allies. Nice. In summary:
…to Obama, the prospect of Jews building homes is a fatal blow to Middle East peace; but when Palestinians reach a deal with a designated terrorist group, it is not only greeted with a shrug, but his administration actively works with the Palestinians to help them skirt U.S. law.
Israel is, not surprisingly, unimpressed with Obama’s “friendship.”
In an interestingly timed move, a task force designed to combat domestic terrorism has been re-formed:
The Department of Justice will reconstitute a task force that was originally formed after the 1995 Oklahoma City bombing but dissolved after the Sept. 11, 2001 hijacked plane attacks as law enforcement agencies focused on threats from militants abroad.
On Tuesday, Attorney General Eric Holder said in a statement that the United States remains concerned about threats from Islamic extremists, but the group will focus on other motives for attacks within U.S. borders.
Events like the April 2013 bombing of the Boston Marathon, in which the attackers appeared to be influenced by extremists abroad, would not fall under the jurisdiction of the group, named the Domestic Terrorism Executive Committee.
“We must also concern ourselves with the continued danger we face from individuals within our own borders who may be motivated by a variety of other causes from anti-government animus to racial prejudice,” Holder said.
Let me paint a picture, just for fun. The IRS has been outed as the enforcers of Obamacare and political targeting, and it has caused a lot of anger and concern, enough to cause poll damage already. If the Republicans use that as a campaign issue — which they absolutely should, but I’m not confident they will because they’re cowardly idiots — and if voter sentiment is hugely against the Democrats — which it is — then they need some other method of minimizing the electoral damage. I’d say that a designation of domestic terrorism for right-wing groups who like things like guns and dislike things like illegal immigration would qualify, don’t you think? After all, this is the most race-based Department of “Justice” this nation has seen in decades, if not ever. They’ve already been pretty forthright about selectively enforcing laws they don’t like, and the Republicans wilt like delicate flowers every time — EVERY TIME — the accusation of racism is leveled in their general direction, so it all fits rather nicely, don’t you think? Just sayin’…
There’s my two cents.
