Another Day, Another Lie Unravels

Via Byron York:

[W]hether or not many people noticed, this was the week in which the Obama administration’s attempts to deflect blame for the border crisis fell apart.

Top administration officials have tried to attribute the surge in crossings to violence and poverty in [countries other than Mexico]. “The situation is motivated primarily by the conditions in the countries that they’re leaving — El Salvador, Honduras and Guatemala,” said Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson in testimony before the Senate Judiciary Committee Tuesday. “Violence, poverty — I believe that is principally what is motivating the situation.”

For its part, the White House dismissed arguments from Republicans that President Obama’s DACA decree — Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, which allowed thousands of illegal immigrants to stay in this country if they came at a young age — created, in effect, a magnet for young people to try to enter the U.S. illegally. …

Recent days have been filled with anecdotal reports, from local news outlets in Central America to major American newspapers, citing immigrants who say they came because they believe U.S. law has been changed to allow them to stay. And now comes word that Border Patrol agents in the most heavily-trafficked area of the surge, the Rio Grande Valley sector of Texas, recently questioned 230 illegal immigrants about why they came. The results showed overwhelmingly that the immigrants, including those classified as UACs, or unaccompanied children, were motivated by the belief that they would be allowed to stay in the United States — and not by conditions in their homelands. From a report written by the agents, quoting from the interviews:

The main reason the subjects chose this particular time to migrate to the United States was to take advantage of the “new” U.S. “law” that grants a “free pass” or permit (referred to as “permisos”) being issued by the U.S. government to female adult OTMs traveling with minors and to UACs. (Comments: The “permisos” are the Notice to Appear documents issued to undocumented aliens, when they are released on their own recognizance pending a hearing before an immigration judge.) The information is apparently common knowledge in Central America and is spread by word of mouth, and international and local media. A high percentage of the subjects interviewed stated their family members in the U.S. urged them to travel immediately, because the United States government was only issuing immigration “permisos” until the end of June 2014…The issue of “permisos” was the main reason provided by 95% of the interviewed subjects.

In addition, it seems like these illegal immigrants have rehearsed exactly what to say:

They immediately claim credible fear from gang violence or say, “I was scared I would be killed,” one of the Border Patrol agents working along the border told TheBlaze.

“It’s something they’re all saying and it’s obvious that it is well-rehearsed and it is a consistent story,” said Albert Spratte, a Border Patrol agent and union representative with the National Border Patrol Council’s Local 3307 in the Rio Grande Valley sector. “We can’t even get them to answer their name before they tell us the gangs were the reason they fled their country.”

To make things worse, Obama isn’t doing anything to dissuade them now that it has risen to a national crisis.  In fact, he’s doing quite the opposite:

The White House will honor 10 young adults on Tuesday who came to the United States illegally and qualified for the president’s program to defer deportation actions.

Each person has qualified for the government’s Deferred Action for Childhood Arrival program, which delays removal proceedings against them as long as they meet certain guidelines.

They will be honored as “Champions of Change,” the White House said in a statement Monday because they “serve as success stories and role models in their academic and professional spheres.”

If anyone has any questions about just how much authority Obama sees in the Constitution and American law, this should provide the answer in spades.  Not only is he refusing to enforce the law, but he is publicly celebrating those who violate it.  And, here’s what he says about them:

“About 30 to 40 percent of the kids in this school, by the way, are DREAM kids,” Obama said Wednesday evening. “You wouldn’t know it looking at them, because they are as American as apple pie.  But every single one of these kids, you might not be able to tell the difference, but a whole bunch of them — they’re worried about whether or not they’re going to be able to finance their college education of their immigrant status.  They’re worried about whether, in fact, this country that they love so deeply loves them back and understands that our future rests on their success.  Why wouldn’t we want to give them that certainty that you are part of the fabric of this nation, we’re counting on you, and we’re going to make sure you succeed?  Why wouldn’t we want to do that?”

Excuse me?  “Our future rests on their success?”  He’s saying that the future of America relies on the success of non-American, non-English-speaking, uneducated, unhealthy, unassimilating, lawbreaking children from other countries?!  There’s so much wrong with this, it’s simply shocking.  How many of them are learning English and going to college as opposed to hunkering down in enclaves of people only from their home nation?  How many of them love apple pie or baseball or anything else that is considered a traditionally “American” thing?  How many of them actually love and honor this country and seek to become productive law-abiding members of its society when they came here by violating those very laws?  How many of them consider themselves part of the fabric of America rather than Mexican-American or some other politically correct hyphenated gibberish?  This little speech sounds high and noble and all warm fuzzy, but it’s patently absurd.

This is your President, America.  This is today’s Democrat party.  Ready to step into the voting booth yet?

Meanwhile, the Border Patrol — you know, the guys trying to adhere to American law and protect American citizens — is getting new restrictions in terms of the use of force when being attacked by illegal immigrants.  This situation has been twisted into a surreal pretzel of mind-bending proportions, like an M.C. Escher painting come to life.

There’s my two cents.

I'm a gun-owning, Bible-thumping, bitter clinger conservative in the heartland. You can disagree with me if you want (you do, after all, have a right to be wrong)...just don't be rude or stupid and we'll get along just fine! :)
